Situation
Around the opening of their new office in Amsterdam, Booking.com wanted to create a unique and interactive experience for their employees. This was done with a boat trip through the canals, in which three boats were used. The challenge? To develop a game that fits the limited space on the boats and that required as few physical materials as possible. In addition, they wanted to challenge the participants to play not only against the teams on their own boat, but also against the teams on the other two boats.
Solution
A custom game that was completely digital and playable on the phones of the participants. The goal was simple but effective: to earn as many points as possible with your team in one hour. The game consisted of a combination of challenging questions, creative assignments and strategic choices to keep the teams sharp and competitive.
To make the game even more dynamic, we integrated GPS location points into the route. When a boat reached a certain location, the teams were given a location-specific question or assignment. This provided an extra layer of interaction and made the tour even more connected to the city.
Result
The game provided competition, fun and team building, while the participants sailed through Amsterdam in a relaxed way. Because the teams played against each other as well as against the other boats, an exciting battle ensued until the last moment.
